W-H-Y?

In order to get some fund from the Council it would be helpful if we could collect some convincing ideas why we actually want to go to Iceland and help building up the Fishfactory project. (= why is it attractive for CSM students to contribute in such a project?)

We can come up with suggestions here and present them all together at our meeting tomorrow.

My ideas are:
- we can demonstrate our ability to build up such a project
- everyone can do what he/she can do best since we've split up into different groups with completely different functions (from organizing to designing and documentation… )
- since we are on our MA it would also be helpful to us to learn something from others from our class.

  1. We can all learn from this experience and take our knowledge back to our home towns if a similar need might come up there as well.

This is an opportunity that might not come again too soon and we are able to be part of it.

Since we all come from a different background we are going to come up with great and new ideas and everyone will have his or her own take in it.

Iceland will change our perception since it is some kind of contrast to London.

In this process we can actually use are skills in order to help the people living there and make the fishfactory work out.

  2. The interest of students of a well-known London Design college (cough, cough) might spark the interest of different/more/more international people. So not only the work of the students for the project, but their mere interest might be advertising for the project.

  3. Anna and Arianna ideas:
-International visibility/contacts both for CSM and for Iceland fish factory project
-Engagement of the students with a real studio
-Advertisement for MACD course and for futures MACD students, because of a concrete collaboration with a foreign country
-Opportunity to experience a new kind of project in a different context

  4. It’s often said that designers should matter and use their creative skills for the right purpose. This seems to be a great opportunity to work on something big that can change and help the both locals and outside creative community. It’s a project with good principles: reusing the building, revalue the identity of the place, sustainable thinking, improving local economy, with which we all could learn a lot. It’s other way of thinking in scale and in context, since it’s a reality apart from the London big metropolis, where opportunities are likely to go in different directions.
Furthermore, I believe that due to our diversity or background and knowledge we are a valuable resource for develop the fish factory project in Iceland. It would be nice for them to have the contribution young designers from all over the world, not only in ideas but also in publicizing and promoting the project in our countries. I also think that being related with design city like London can be important to give the project more visibility.
